A new chapter for The Birdwatcher’s Yearbook
In order to secure a healthy long-term future for The Birdwatcher’s Yearbook, we are delighted to announce that Buckingham Press has sold the title to Calluna Books, the Dorset-based business owned by Neil Gartshore.
After working closely with Neil as the author of our Best Birdwatching Sites: Dorset guide we became convinced that his eye for detail and diligent working methods would make him the ideal candidate to take the Yearbook on to its next exciting chapter.
Neil will be the third owner of the Yearbook title since it was launched by John E Pemberton in 1981. We took over Buckingham Press in the year 2000 and expanded the business to include the Best Birdwatching Sites guides and ID Insights Pocket Card series. Buckingham Press Ltd will continue in business to sell the site guides and ID cards and is committed to publish Best Birdwatching Sites: Yorkshire (now scheduled for early 2016) before we retire.
We would like to sincerely thank the hundreds of people who have contributed and updated material over the past 15 years and helped to ensure the Yearbook has remained the most trusted source of information for ornithologists, recreational birdwatchers, journalists and researchers in the UK. Equally important for a small family business like ours has been the loyalty of our core customer base and we trust they will continue to give their support to Neil in the years to come.
Finally, we’d like to publicly thanks Swarovski Optik UK for their unstinting sponsorship support which has enabled us to maintain the Yearbook’s selling price at an affordable sub-£20 level.
Hilary and David Cromack
